When I was at the State Fair over the last 17 days, I had the opportunity to get some gal time with my friend Jeanette who is the Marketing Specialist for the Indiana Wine and Grape Council. I know some of you are thinking, “Indiana Wines? Seriously?” I know, I know, I was a doubter too. I am a dry red drinker. Nothing is better than a great bottle of Cabernet. After all, I even have a wine aerator. But, I have come to appreciate our Indiana Wineries.
First of all, what is more fun than going on a wine tour in Southern Indiana? With 35 wineries in Indiana you can pretty much guarantee there is one close to where you live in Indiana. If not, you can bet there is a bottle of Indiana wine at Kroger, Sam’s Club, or your grocer of choice.
Second of all, we can import the grapes or juice from the grapes to make the drier wines our soils and climate can’t grow here in the Hoosier state. However, Indiana now has it’s very own signature wine, Traminette.
And Indiana Wineries now have their very own App for the Apple products! The app lets you map local wineries, obtain directions, view photos and details about the wineries’ amenities, and travel along a wine trail. A special feature of the app showcases Traminette along with a listing of all wineries that offer it. You can mark your favorite wineries and wines for when making purchasing decisions after a winery visit. I swear she did this just for me. I can never remember which wine I like at which winery. So, then I have to taste all the wines again each time I visit. I know, it is really tough!
