Slice the cheese you choose to make the sandwich. Recommend using Havarti, Colby-Jack, Cheddar, Swiss, or American.
Heat a skillet over medium heat. When the pan is hot, melt half the butter in the pan. Then when it is melted, place the bread on the melted butter.
Layer the cheese on the bread in the pan, then cover with a lid for a minute to begin melting the cheese.
Place the second piece of bread on the cheese. Remove the sandwich from the pan and melt remaining butter in the pan. Flip the sandwich into the pan to toast the other side.
Cook the sandwich for another minute or two. Turn down the heat to ensure you don't burn the bread.
