Roast Beef Hawaiian Roll Sliders – Sandy’s Sandwiches (Baked)

Sharing is caring!

Roast beef Hawaiian roll sliders, affectionately called Sandy’s Sandwiches, combine butter, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, and poppy seeds into a glaze that complements these baked roast beef and cheese sandwiches. These roast beef Hawaiian roll sandwiches are a great switch-up from the mustard, butter, and onion ham sandwiches everyone loves, too. But these are perfect for the people who aren’t crazy about mustard or onions.

These sliders are the answer to every party food question. They’re our go-to for Super Bowl Sunday, tailgates, holiday open houses, and any gathering where you need something that feeds a crowd, travels well, and disappears fast. You can assemble them the day before, pop them in the oven when guests arrive, and they’re done in 30 minutes.

Baked roast beef sandwiches were so easy to make. From start to finish, I made these sandwiches in 10 minutes and popped them in the oven while I ran to town to pick up kids from practice. They were perfectly baked when I got home.

The Story Behind Sandy’s Sandwiches

These sliders don’t have a generic name in our house, they’re Sandy’s Sandwiches. Sandy is a family friend who showed up to a gathering with a pan of these years ago, and they disappeared before anything else on the table. I reverse-engineered her recipe on the way home and have been making them ever since. The Chex Mix smell when they bake, the Worcestershire and garlic toasting in the oven, is the signal in our house that something really good is about to come out of the kitchen.

  • Slider Rolls – Hawaiian dinner Rolls or Pepperidge Farm will work for this. I actually like the Pepperidge Farm rolls for this recipe.
  • Roast Beef Deli Meat – just regular roast beef deli meat will work but you can also use pastrami. Roast beef does better if it is a little thicker cut. Avoid shaved roast beef.
  • Cheese – Swiss or White American Cheese Slices is what I normally use. Switch it up and even do beef and cheddar.
  • Butter – the original ham sandwich recipe uses butter, so naturally, so would the beef version.
  • Worcestershire Sauce – Beef and Worcestershire sauce go together sort of like peanut butter and jelly.
  • Garlic Powder – Love the garlic flavors in this roast beef sandwich recipe, thanks to the garlic powder. Garlic salt can be substituted, but then don’t add salt later.
  • Sesame Seeds – these sesame seeds are optional, but I think they are worth it.
  • Salt or Onion Salt – I like onion flavors, so I prefer to use onion salt. If you used garlic salt, don’t also use onion salt. Onion powder can be substituted.

Roast Beef Slider Variations

  • Beef and Cheddar Sliders — Swap Swiss for sharp cheddar, and add a thin spread of BBQ sauce inside the rolls before layering the beef.
  • Corned Beef and Swiss Sliders (Reuben-Style) — Use corned beef deli meat instead of roast beef, Swiss cheese, and add a thin layer of drained sauerkraut. Use the same butter glaze; it works perfectly with the Reuben flavor profile. (Joni mentioned this variation in the comments, and she’s right, do it.)
  • French Dip Sliders — Use this same recipe, but serve with a small bowl of warm au jus on the side for dipping. Use provolone instead of Swiss.
  • Spicy Roast Beef Sliders — Add a thin spread of horseradish cream sauce and swap the Swiss for pepper jack. Sprinkle a pinch of crushed red pepper into the butter glaze.
  • Philly Cheesesteak Sliders — Layer thin-sliced roast beef with sautéed green peppers, onions, and mushrooms under provolone. Use the same butter glaze.

FAQ

Can you freeze these sandwiches for later?

These sandwiches actually do freeze quite well. You can freeze them as a whole package or individually. Thaw the sandwiches and then bake according to normal cooking instructions. Individual sandwiches can also be microwaved or popped in the air fryer for a quick hot sandwich.
